FAMILY VACATION

A family vacation is a wonderful opportunity for family members to spend quality time together, relax, and create lasting memories. The specifics of a family vacation can vary widely depending on the destination, budget, and interests of the family.A family vacation is a special time for creating bonds, exploring new places, and escaping from the routines of daily life. It's a time for making memories that will be treasured for years to come.

It Consists Of :

  1. Planning: It often starts with the family discussing and deciding on a destination or activity that suits everyone's preferences and interests. Planning can involve booking accommodations, transportation, and activities in advance, as well as creating an itinerary to ensure a smooth trip.
  2. Packing: Family members gather their belongings, and there is usually a mix of excitement and anticipation in the air. Depending on the destination and duration of the vacation, packing may include clothing, travel essentials, and special items like toys or books for children.
  3. Departure: The family sets off on their journey, whether by car, plane, train, or any other mode of transportation. The trip to the destination can be an adventure in itself, with everyone excitedly discussing the upcoming experiences and sights to see.
  4. Arrival: Upon reaching their destination, the family checks into their chosen accommodations, which could be a hotel, vacation rental, or camping site. They may explore the immediate surroundings, take a swim if near the beach, or simply settle into their home away from home.
  5. Activities: Family vacations often revolve around a mix of planned activities and spontaneous adventures. These activities could include sightseeing, visiting museums, hiking, swimming, trying local cuisine, shopping, or participating in guided tours or excursions.
  6. Quality Time: The heart of a family vacation is the quality time spent together. Families can bond through shared experiences, conversations, and laughter. Whether it's building sandcastles on the beach, exploring historical landmarks, or trying new activities together, these moments create strong family connections.
  7. Relaxation: Family vacations also provide an opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation. Families can unwind by the pool, read books, or simply enjoy the beauty of their surroundings. This downtime allows everyone to recharge and destress.
  8. Dining: Trying local cuisine is often a highlight of family vacations. Families can savor new dishes and flavors, or simply enjoy meals at restaurants or picnic in scenic spots.
  9. Reflection: Family vacations provide a great opportunity for reflection and appreciation. Families often share stories of their adventures and discuss their favorite moments, creating cherished memories.
  10. Return home: Eventually, the family vacation comes to an end, and the family returns home. This can be a mix of satisfaction from a well-spent time together and a bit of sadness that the vacation is over.

Experience Of Family Vacation

Our first real vacation was when my sister and I were about four or five years old. Up to that time our entire world was just our little village and the surrounding hills. We did go on “vacation” to Akureyri a few times, but that was an easy day trip so it doesn’t really count.

We also went on “vacation” to the home of my father’s friend, which was about five kilometers down the road from us. But that really doesn’t count as a “vacation”, even though we had great fun loving up his horses and messing around on top of his barn.

However…..

One day our father announced that we were going on a real “vacation” to a mysterious place across the ocean called Norway.

Now…..

Up to that time, we weren’t really sure if there was anything across the ocean. We couldn’t see anything, but we did look at maps and pictures in books that showed all kinds of cool places out there.

But where we lived, you could only get to out there, by going across the ocean.

And….

Since we didn’t have a longboat, my father decided to fly.

So….

We figured there had to be something out there, and we looked forward to the day of our adventure.

The special day finally arrived…

And off we went.

We first took a plane flight from Akureyri To Reykjavik and since that was our very first plane flight, it was a whole lot of fun, even though my sister and I spent the whole flight climbing all over each other to see out the window.

The airport in Keflavik was amazing. Our mother explained that each one of the people walking around the airport was going somewhere.

So it started to sink into our empty little heads that there were a whole lot of somewheres out there.

Somewhere.

After loitering around the Keflavik Airport for a while, it was time to head out across the ocean.

This was the real exciting part for us. What if the books and maps were wrong, and there wasn’t anything across the ocean.

Except for the giant kraken that our grandpa told stories about.

We were amazed at how huge the plane was, and my sister and I discussed if something that big could really get off the ground. And what happens to us if it didn’t?

However…..

The pilots were very nice and even gave us a tour of the cockpit. Of course both my sister and I wanted very badly to start pushing buttons and yanking on levers, but the look our father gave us made us realize that touching anything would be a very, very, bad idea.

The actual take off was absolutely amazing. How could something that big, move so fast…

And…..

Actually take off into the air.

My sister and I were both terrified and exhilarated as we hugged each other while watching the ground disappear as we climbed into the sky.

Then the land disappeared, and now we could see the sea.

We didn’t have any concept of how fast we were going, but we could tell that there was a whole lot of ocean that we were flying over.

And…..

We wondered what kinds of creatures lived in all that water.

The lovely flight attendant gave us a couple of stroopwafels to munch on, while she politely told us to sit down and stop crawling over people to look out their windows.

Our father wasn’t quite as polite as he told us to stop running around and to stay in our seats. Or he would throw us out a window.

We didn’t think he could really throw us out a window, but to be on the safe side we sat in our seats and spent the rest of the flight crawling over each other to look out our window.

And then…..

We saw land again, and felt the plane start to slow down. We watched in wonderment as the ground got closer and closer, until we could see cars moving around on roads.

All of a sudden, we felt a huge “thunk”, and we were on the ground again.

And…..

We walked out of the plane into another huge airport, smushed in with more people that were all going somewhere.

But now we knew that there were indeed lots of somewheres out there. More somewheres than we could even imagine.

And…..

We realized right then that the world was a whole lot bigger than our little village.

Much, much, bigger.

And very different from our little world.

And…..

My sister and I decided that when we got older, we were going to travel and visit these somewheres.

To see and experience other peoples’ realities and dreams.

And….

To find out what’s really out there.

Somewhere.
